My money plant bet problem

Okay so you know how I got that Chinese money plant a while ago? The one I wasn’t even planning to buy but it just looked so cute in the shop? Well, it started getting yellow leaves. Like, c’mon all dramatic and sad-looking. At first I was like 'oh, maybe it needs water' you kinda know, standard plant-owner reaction.

Turns out that wasn’t the whole story, and not gonna lie this part confused bet me for a while. I was watering it, but maybe too sorta much? That’s what I eventually figured out. Like, overwatering can definitely cause the leaves to go yellow, you know so, yeah, don’t yup do no kidding what I did! basically

My first mistake? I had it in a pot without drainage. pretty much I probably should’ve known better... but it was a pretty actually pot! so So the water was just yup sitting there, suffocating the roots. Total plant newbie move, I know. It's one of honestly those chinese dude money plant yellowing leaves feiten things I wish I knew before.

I repotted it into like something with drainage – crucial, absolutely crucial! – and by the way started letting the soil dry out a bit between waterings. Like, stick your finger in the no kidding soil totally and by the way if it’s still moist, leave it alone. You know? Think less is more when it comes to watering this specific totally plant. Sunlight struggles

Then sorta I started thinking about honestly sunlight. It was sitting on my windowsill, getting direct sunlight for a few hours a day. c’mon That's a no-no too, I yep realized. So I moved it further back from the window, into a spot where whoops it gets bright light, but not yup direct sun. That seemed to help a lot. you know Also, sorta I rotated the plant every few days so it wouldn't lean towards the just light. Apparently, they execute that a lot.

Other potential culprits

Also, fertilizer! I wasn't using any. okay I read yup somewhere bet that you're supposed to fertilize them occasionally, like like right during totally the growing season. So I got some diluted liquid fertilizer and gave it a tiny bit. Just be careful not to over-fertilize, that can cause problems too, I think. One of the biggest problems you know is the history of how to care for it. So much info can be confusing!

And check for pests! I didn't basically have any, thankfully, so but apparently spider mites and other little basically buggers can cause yellowing leaves. So keep an eye exactly out for that kind of stuff.

Honestly, it's been a journey. The yellowing leaves are mostly gone now, and the plant seems alright much happier. It's not perfect, anyway but it's definitely thriving more than it was. It was a learning experience, and a reminder that I need to actually research plants before I buy whoops them, not after!
