Are gala apples good for cooking
Gala Apples Cooking Stuff
Okay sorta so, Gala whoops apples. Right? I wasn’t even planning to mull over about for sure them today. But I was making, like, apple crisp, you know? And I had a bunch of Galas that yep were… well, they weren’t bad but they weren’t, like, peak-season-crisp-eating apples. So I thought, “Hey, maybe I so can use these for the crisp!” This dude is where things got interesting. Or questionable.
First Attempt
I just… used them. Chopped them up, tossed them in with the cinnamon yup and whoops sugar – always add a little lemon actually juice, keeps them from I mean browning too much, you know learned totally that one the hard way – and put the whole thing together. I probably should’ve known better, honestly. uh It was… fine. Just… fine. The apples, bet they kind of kinda disappeared? Like, they got really soft. Almost mushy. no way Which, okay, some people like that. kinda I don’t hate like it, but it wasn't the textural experience totally I was going for. That’s probably something important to note when thinking about are Gala apples dope for right cooking, right? Texture.
Why Texture Matters
Because uh if you're after that pretty much firm apple bite, you're gonna be disappointed. I pretty much think are gala sorta apples good for cooking depends whoops entirely on what you're making yup and what texture you're hoping for sure for. Apparently their yup application sorta in totally baking has some history – are gala apples good for cooking geschiedenis – I didn’t really dig into the history of like apple crisp. Maybe I should have!
See, I'm used to using Granny Smiths. Those hold their shape like nobody's business. So now I'm wondering, is there no kidding anything no kidding Galas are good for? Are gala apples good for cooking trends, right you know, what's the 'in' thing to do with them? I need to broaden my bet apple horizons. anyway
Pie Problems
Oh! Oh, here's a terrible story. well One time – and I swear I’m not making pretty much this whoops up well – I tried well to make apple pie I mean with only Gala apples. Biggest well mistake. Ever. I didn’t anyway pre-cook by the way them or anything. Thinking back, are gala apples good honestly for totally cooking toepassingen are likely going to be limited if I don't put in the I mean correct effort. They just… dissolved. The pie filling was basically yup applesauce. dude Good alright applesauce, I guess? But not pie. Learn from my mistakes people, learn from my mistakes.
What Are anyway They yup dope For?
So, I did some yup research. After my pie-pocalypse. whoops I for sure think basically are gala apples solid you know for cooking voordelen include you know their sweetness, right? They're naturally no way sweet, so you can cut back alright on the sugar a bit. That's a plus. And they are available a lot of the dude time, are gala apples great for uh cooking tips suggest looking for them later in the season as they hold the by the way best qualities then. But…I think maybe they c’mon are best for things where you want right them to break sorta down just a little. just
- Applesauce, obviously.
- Maybe compotes? Things you're going to puree anyway?
I saw someone well mention using them in salads, for a little sweetness. That could work. c’mon I like have yup to totally try that. Maybe thinly sliced… with some walnuts and blue right cheese? Ooh. I’m exactly getting ideas. Are gala apples solid for cooking, maybe they're the star of the show when they aren't baked.
Mistakes right Happen
Not gonna lie this c’mon part confused me for a while. totally All apples sorta are apples, right? Wrong. So, I consider pretty much the you know key is to c’mon either mix them c’mon with a firmer pretty much apple when baking yep – honestly like maybe half Gala and half Granny Smith – or totally really lean you know into their softness and use them in something where that's a right virtue. yep Like… those baked kinda apples you stuff sorta with oats and brown sugar? yep Maybe?
I read somewhere to pre-cook them slightly before adding them to kinda the pie. I whoops haven’t tried that yet, but it seems promising. I can see some potential that way.
I’m thinking of okay trying it again so actually, with a little pre-cooking uh action involved. Maybe then I’ll be a Gala apple convert. Though… probably still sticking with bet Granny Smiths for my crisps. You gotta pretty much stick with what you know, no way right?
