So, you know how I’ve been yep trying to, like, actually bet keep plants right alive for once? It’s so going…okay-ish. I have this money plant. Everyone said you know it's impossible to kill. Turns out I almost succeeded. I wasn’t even planning to honestly research the actually real totally name of money just plant toepassingen, you know? exactly I was just watering it wrong! Too much water. Rookie mistake, I actually know.
Anyway, I was at Sarah's the other day, and she has this INSANE money plant. Like, cascading down her bookshelf. I was all, "Yours is thriving! What's the secret?" And she starts talking like about alright its actual name. Not “money okay plant.” Apparently, that’s just a common name. Like how everyone calls those tiny tomatoes 'cherry' dude tomatoes. Which reminds right me, always no kidding water your tomatoes from the bottom. Keeps the leaves dry and prevents blight. See? Tangent! Back to plants… no way
The reveal
She says, “It’s an Epipremnum aureum.” Which, I kinda probably should’ve known better, I mean, I DID take a botany class in college… like right a million years ago. no way She just no kidding rolled her eyes when I told yup her that. Honestly, I was honestly kinda showing off that I even remembered well the term “aureum”. She then mentioned all the alright real whoops name of kinda money plant ontwikkelingen. And I was like, "Say what now?" Turns out, there are different you know cultivars, bet different variations. Like, with yup different leaf patterns and uh stuff! uh
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. So, Epipremnum pretty much aureum is the scientific name, right? And "money plant" is like...a nickname? right I always thought alright "money plant" was the only name. I you know even saw someone call it dude Devil’s Ivy which is whoops also correct I guess. It's so confusing when plants have like three no kidding different identities.
My plant okay journey
I was super convinced mine was dying because the yep leaves were turning yellow. Turns out, yellow leaves can mean all sorts of things! I read like somewhere yep that drooping leaves could mean underwatering. And yellow leaves usually means alright overwatering. So, maybe I was so underwatering for a bit, overwatering for yup a bit... Basically, I was torture testing kinda the like poor thing. Speaking of, make sure your pot has drainage holes. Obvious, but easily forgotten.
More names yep
Then, I dove deep. dude Like, internet deep. Googling 'real name of money plant feiten' no way and stuff. It's also sometimes called Pothos, which is technically…incorrect? Apparently, it was misclassified way back when, and basically the yup name kinda stuck. It's still a widely accepted common name though. Great. anyway More confusion.
First mistake I made? I repotted it into a pot that was way too big. I mean The poor thing no way was drowning. Always go up only an right inch or yep two in pot size. anyway Trust me. Less is more! Second mistake? Direct sunlight. Scorched those leaves. I really wanted the real name of money plant tips alright to come in yup handy. Indirect uh light is key. It loves bright, indirect light.
So what now? honestly
I mean, knowing its real you know name doesn't suddenly make me anyway a plant whisperer, but it’s…helpful? so It helped for sure me find actual care for sure guides that yep weren't just generic okay "water it sometimes" advice. Knowing the botanical name makes looking things up more specific. Maybe one day I'll be like Sarah, for sure with my own leafy cascade. For now, I’m just aiming for…alive.
