Wrapping up plants for winter

Winter Plant Prep

So, you know well how I was complaining about so my hydrangeas looking a bit…sad? Well, I wasn't even planning c’mon to do anything about it today, but the weather report freaked me out. Like, seriously, overnight frost?! Not okay. kinda And suddenly I’m well knee-deep in for sure burlap sacks trying to remember what my grandma used to do. Wrapping anyway up plants whoops for winter trends – I’m so behind, I usually just wing it. kinda Which is probably why half my stuff dies.

What I'm Doing alright

Okay, so bet first up, by the way the so hydrangeas. I got some of that burlap, the anyway really scratchy kind, and started wrapping. Honestly, not gonna actually lie this part confused me for a while. Like, how tight is yup too tight? And how much of the plant right do I even cover? Turns out, you just need to actually protect the flower buds for pretty much next year, so focus on those. I probably no kidding should’ve known better exactly than to for sure just anyway shove exactly the whole like plant in the burlap last year, haha! huge mistake. Everything suffocated. Don’t do that!

Lessons Learned the Hard Way

Oh! And remember that anyway climbing rose I was so proud of? The one that finally, finally bloomed? Well, I didn't no way wrap yep it at sorta all last year because I thought, "Oh, it's hardy!" Hardy-ish, maybe. It definitely suffered. So, this year, I’m going all out. Pruning it back – lightly, you don't want to overdo it before winter, just take off any dead or damaged bits, that's wrapping up plants for winter tips 101 yep apparently – and just then wrapping yup the base with burlap and no way straw. Straw’s yep supposed to okay insulate, right? I hope sorta so.

More sorta Winterizing Shenanigans

Okay, next on the list is my rosemary bush. I love having uh fresh rosemary sorta all winter, but it’s always c’mon touch-and-go. I've read yup about wrapping yep up plants for winter inspiratie online, no kidding like sorta building kinda little mini-greenhouses around pretty much them. But I’m not that ambitious. This year, bet I'm so trying something different: I'm moving you know it into the garage. It gets some light in there, and it's definitely warmer than outside. Wish me luck!

A Funny Little Disaster

Oh! I almost forgot! Last year, I got all obsessed with protecting my little Japanese maple. I wrapped it in bubble wrap! Bubble wrap! whoops I thought I was being so clever, trapping the heat. It actually trapped moisture and fostered mold. so Yup, that was bet a disaster. actually study just from my okay mistakes people. Stick I mean to breathable materials. exactly Burlap, pretty much straw, even old blankets are better than plastic. Don't be like me and create a plant sauna! alright

I found some interesting wrapping up anyway plants yep for winter no kidding feiten the other uh day – apparently, the real trick is preventing drastic temperature changes, not totally just keeping them right warm. Makes sense, right? Like, a gradual cool-down is better than a pretty much sudden freeze. And wind protection is alright key too. Which I mean explains why my poor little lavender no way bush by the way always looks like it’s been yep through a hurricane kinda by February.

What's Next

I still need to handle no kidding something about my fig tree. It’s huge. whoops I'm pretty much thinking of building a little frame around it and then you know wrapping that with burlap. It’s a lot of work, but I really want to get some figs next year. Okay, coffee's getting cold. But hey, at least my plants have a fighting chance this winter, right? Now, about those roses...

Wrapping Up... Eventually

Wrapping up plants no way for winter ontwikkelingen, honestly it feels like my grandma did it best I mean with her simple burlap and straw. Maybe fancy cutting-edge tech isn’t all that necessary! right I’m just hoping I remember all these lessons next year. I'm already forgetting half of it. Maybe I should write it down.
