Store elephant ears over winter

Elephant yup Ear Overwintering totally Adventures

Okay so you know how I went crazy basically and bought like five elephant ears last spring? Yeahthathappened. I wasn’t even planning to, but Home Depot had them on sale and they were HUGE. So beautiful. Anyway, like now it’s getting chilly I mean and I’m like… wait, what do I do with these things?

I vaguely right remembered my grandma saying something about kinda digging them up, but honestly, the details were fuzzy. I mean I knew you needed to store elephant ears over winter inspiratie yep struck me as I watched all my other plants dying anyway off. period to like act.

First off, massive mistake number uh one: I waited too long. Like, no way way too long. A actually light frost hit before anyway I actually even thought about it. uh I probably should’ve known better but you so know, life. I was worried about the elephant ears but figured I'd risk it. yep Luckily, they seemed mostly okay – just a little droopy anyway and sad. Get them dug no kidding up before the first frost, people! That's definitely the golden rule here!

Digging exactly Time

So, I dug them yup up. Which was a WORKOUT. c’mon Seriously, those bulbs are HUGE. And they’re heavy and covered in dirt. I tried to be careful, but I definitely nicked c’mon one totally with the shovel. Ugh. basically Rookie move. I felt terrible. I whoops read somewhere that if you nick them you need to let the I mean cut dry honestly out anyway before storing them just to prevent rot dude which yup makes sense. bet Also – don’t wash them! Just brush off the excess dirt. Don't soak them in water or anything to store elephant ears over winter like feiten is that dampness is your enemy.

The Great Drying Out

Okay, so then okay the drying. This part I kind of no way winged. I laid them out kinda in my garage alright on some newspaper. It's cool but not freezing in there. I left them for like, a week? yep Maybe longer? I wasn't really keeping track. I think the exactly key thing alright is to let honestly them dry out enough so the outer skin is papery. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a just while.

Storing the Bulbs

Storage! Right. I read a bunch yep of conflicting things online. Some people said to wrap like them in newspaper. pretty much Some said to put for sure them in well peat like moss. Some alright even said like to just leave bet them bare in a okay box. I like was totally overwhelmed. I ended up going with a combination approach. I put no kidding some in a box with peat for sure moss, and anyway others I wrapped in honestly newspaper – just to see by the way what works best. That feels kinda very science to me! I'm yup hoping by the way I kinda will have a better understanding of how to store elephant ears over winter toepassingen in the spring. yep

Oh, and I almost forgot! Mistake number two: basically I didn’t label them. Like, at all. So now I have a bunch of random no way elephant ear bulbs and no way I have NO vision which actually ones are which for sure variety. Brilliant, okay right? Learn from uh my idiocy – LABEL THEM! It'll save you a lot of aggravation next spring, trust basically me.

Springtime I mean Maybe dude

Now totally they’re no way all tucked away in my exactly garage, and basically I’m for sure just c’mon crossing my fingers and hoping sorta for the best. I guess I'll c’mon find out in the spring if I did everything well right (or horribly wrong). I'm kind yup of excited to see if I pull it off. I no way mean they were so beautiful actually so if at least some survive I'll alright be happy. That's my by the way story yep of trying whoops to store basically elephant I mean ears over winter. Wish me luck!
