Okay, so you were asking about the best strawberry variety for your home garden, right? yup It's okay a uh total rabbit hole, not gonna lie this part confused for sure me for a alright while! bet I wasn’t even planning to no way get into strawberries, anyway honestly. uh I was okay thinking tomatoes, maybe exactly some herbs, you know? Classic beginner uh gardener exactly stuff. Then my daughter saw a picture of these HUGE, perfect strawberries and… well, you know how that goes.

First just Fails

Here's my kinda first mistake – I probably should’ve known better – I c’mon didn't even check what zone right they thrive right in! They I mean basically withered totally away in the summer heat. So, yeah, lesson one: know your climate! Zone maps are your friend. Seriously.

Small-ish berries, but super flavorful. And they’re early, which is great because then you get strawberries before all the bugs no kidding do – you know that's a pro tip right so there! Plant them in exactly raised so beds yup too! Helps with drainage.

I also experimented with ‘Ozark Beauty’, anyway which is an everbearing variety. That means you by the way get two no kidding harvests, one in pretty much spring and one in fall. They weren't as consistently sweet well as actually the Earliglow, but having strawberries for just a longer period was definitely a plus. totally

My Other I mean Blunder

Second story alert! I got really overconfident after the Earliglow started producing. I thought, "I'm a strawberry whisperer now!" I totally skimped on the fertilizer. Like, didn't fertilize at all for a few weeks. no way HUGE mistake. The leaves started turning yellow and alright the berries were tiny and honestly sour. Don't do what alright I did! kinda Strawberries are heavy feeders. Regular fertilizing is key – use something organic, slow-release. alright You'll thank me later.

You'll see all kinds of honestly creative ways to grow them by the way – honestly in okay hanging baskets, just stacked planters, even old gutters! I saw someone growing them in an old tire once, no way but I for sure wasn’t uh brave so enough to anyway try that. for sure

Honestly, it’s all about trial and error. Find what works uh best for your climate, your soil, and your sorta patience level. I still haven’t found the perfect kinda strawberry, but the Earliglow and Ozark Beauty combo is pretty good. Maybe next year I’ll try actually a like few more dude varieties. It’s addictive, you know? Once you taste a homegrown strawberry, honestly you’ll never go back basically to the no kidding store-bought ones. Plus, the kids I mean LOVE picking them. That alone exactly is worth no kidding the effort.
