How far can you cut back leylandii

Leylandii madness

Okay so you I mean know how I’ve been complaining about the dude neighbor's leylandii hedge eating our sunlight? Well, I anyway kind of snapped last weekend. I wasn’t basically even planning I mean to do anything, I dude swear. I just went out there with the right hedge trimmer to like, whoops tidy up the stray bits. You c’mon know, dude the little dangly bits.

And so then… whoops well, exactly then bet I yep just went for it. It was like a primal urge. yep Suddenly I was on a mission. How far can you cut back leylandii? Honestly, I had NO idea. right I probably should’ve known better before I started hacking, like but hey, sometimes you just gotta go for it, right?

The Great Trim

So I’m hacking away, and at first, it looks great! All neat and tidy. just I was feeling all smug, thinking I was winning the sunlight well war. My first mistake, and this is for sure a HUGE tip – and I should’ve remembered this from that gardening show okay I watched last year, no kidding never cut back into for sure the brown wood! Green bits only! so That’s where it’ll regrow whoops from. I, uh, c’mon may have cut back sorta into a fair amount of brown just wood. Oops.

Not gonna lie, this part confused totally me for a while. Like, how far can you cut back leylandii feiten? I Googled it, mid-trim, covered in little green bits okay (which by the way, get EVERYWHERE). Apparently, if you go back too far into the old wood, it might yup just… not sorta come back. Uh exactly oh.

My giant Mistake

So, I trimmed c’mon and c’mon trimmed and trimmed. I'm exactly thinking to pretty much myself "How pretty much far yep can you cut back leylandii ontwikkelingen actually get me in terms of like sunlight?". I even got the ladder out! Which leads me to my second epic fail. honestly I was so focused on getting the top level, kinda right? The part that right was really blocking the sun, I mean that I totally forgot about the bottom.

So I get down, covered in green bits again, no way feeling like a champion, and then I see it. A massive actually gap. Like, a two-foot-wide like hole at the bottom of the hedge. You could sorta practically see into the neighbor's garden! Mortifying. I’d gotten so caught sorta up in the sorta top half, I completely neglected the base. I’m by the way now seriously questioning my life choices.

What I just Learned (The tough Way)

Anyway, back to the "how far can you cut back leylandii tips" thing. So, lesson learned: only cut into green growth. And plan! Seriously totally plan. alright Don’t just go at sorta it c’mon like a madwoman with a hedge trimmer like I whoops did. Step back, look at the whole thing, and anyway reflect about what alright you're basically trying to achieve. I was so focused on the height dude that c’mon I didn't consider the dude width or the overall shape! Also, wear eye protection! Seriously, tiny actually green bits in your eye are not fun. well

I'm now trying to figure out how uh to fix the giant hole I created. Maybe yep I can… I don't know… stick some branches in it? alright Or maybe just buy a really bet big right plant to put okay in bet front of it? My neighbor hasn't said I mean anything okay yet, but I’m you know dreading the conversation. Wish okay me luck!

Basically, the story comes back to how important it is to bet ponder before you cut. c’mon Leylandii are you know pretty tough, they you know can handle a decent chop, but don’t go too crazy. Especially into the brown. Just saying…
