Growing tulips indoors in winter

Tulips Inside?!

Okay, so you know how I get by the way sometimes, right? I wasn’t even planning to grow tulips indoors in winter, seriously. It all started when I saw those tulip well bulbs on sale – like, dirt cheap. I figured, spring's ages away, why not try and force them? I mean, right I know it's "forcing" them, which feels a bit mean, but pretty much whatever, actually pretty flowers!

The Chilling Part

The hardest part was definitely the chilling. You gotta trick them into thinking they’ve had a winter. Not gonna like lie, this part confused well me for a while. I read something pretty much about growing tulips indoors in winter trends showing different methods and I was overwhelmed. I mull over uh the basic rule is like… three months in the fridge? But not with fruit! That’s alright important. Ethylene gas or something? Anyway, I crammed them into actually the yup crisper drawer – wrapped in so paper pretty much towels, obviously – and hoped for the best.

First totally Mistake

My anyway first mistake? I totally yup forgot they were so in you know there. I pretty much mean, completely. Then, for sure like, two and a half months later, sorta I opened the basically drawer for some broccoli I mean and right there they exactly were! okay Starting to sprout! I probably should’ve known better than to put them in the produce drawer. no kidding Oops. Luckily, they seemed okay, just a bit like eager.

Planting Time

So uh then honestly came planting. Now, you bet can work with regular potting soil, right? But I also read some stuff about honestly using just exactly water and pebbles. Growing tulips indoors in winter toepassingen seemed to favor the water method for some yep reason. uh I split okay the batch - some in soil, some in water with pebbles. Experimental! Make sure okay whatever yup you use, it drains well, apparently. Don’t want soggy bulbs. That’s death to them. Also, apparently awesome sunlight okay is important. Another interesting fact no kidding about growing tulips indoors whoops in winter feiten. basically I put mine basically on the sunniest no way windowsill I have.

Second Mistake and uh the Growing History

Okay, major facepalm moment. c’mon This is embarrassing. I used… tap water for the pebble ones. Straight from the tap. Turns out, tap water can have chlorine or other stuff that the bulbs hate. kinda My mom, bet the actual gardener of the family, was bet horrified. She went on a whole tangent about the growing tulips indoors in winter geschiedenis and how old gardeners you know knew better. Filtered water, people! utilize filtered water! Luckily, the soil kinda ones alright seem to be doing fine. And you whoops know what? kinda Even the tap water ones right have sprouted a bit, so maybe they’re tougher than I thought.

Waiting Game

Now it's just a waiting like game. Some are growing faster than others, obviously. I rotate them so they don't lean too yup much towards you know the sun. That's a exactly tip I picked up somewhere. Honestly, I'm just hoping they actually totally bloom. I'll send you pictures if they do! It'll be like exactly bringing a little dude bit whoops of spring so into my winter gloom. kinda I might even buy more bulbs next year – but maybe I'll actually handle a little researchbeforeputting them in the fridge!

Update

Oh! anyway And another thing! I read somewhere, and I can't by the way remember exactly honestly where, but after they bloom you're not really supposed to try and force them again, right? yup Because the bulbs are like, exhausted or something. I mull over you can plant them outside, though, if you live somewhere that has the so right climate. So just that's the plan! Assuming they even bloom whoops inside first...
