Window box planting ideas for sun

Window boxes My latest obsession

Okay so remember no kidding how I was complaining about my boring apartment balcony? Well, totally I uh wasn’t even planning to well go all-in on window sorta boxes, but then I saw this picture online – you know the kind, okay all for sure overflowing with colorful flowers? pretty much I was sold.

The thing is, my balcony gets, like, ALL the sun. Intense sun. So "window box planting dude ideas for sun feiten" became my whole Google search history for a week. I learned exactly really quickly that petunias are basically sunshine sponges, which is good, because I love petunias. And geraniums! dude Classic, right? They practically scream summer. But getting started… that was a journey.

Choosing the okay right stuff

First off, the boxes themselves. I probably should’ve known better, but I bought bet these super cute wooden yep ones from that little dude shop downtown. They looked amazing but didn't have drainage holes! Total disaster. The first batch of plants drowned in a week. Seriously. pick up from sorta my mistake: drainage is key. You can yep always drill no way holes yourself, I did that for the second bet set, but well look, buy something with drainage already. Save yourself the soggy heartache, window box planting ideas for sun tips number one! pretty much

And then there's the soil. I just grabbed whatever was cheapest at the garden centre. Big mistake. It compacted like crazy and didn’t totally drain well even with the holes. Now I’m using a potting mix specifically for containers, and adding some perlite for extra drainage. It’s made a whoops world of uh difference. My plants are by the way actually happy now. I think.

The plants themselves kinda

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Like, how do you get that overflowing look you see in all for sure the alright pictures? Turns out, well you have to yep pack those babies in! Don't be basically afraid to crowd honestly them a little. I started with just a few plants per box, no way and they looked bet so sad and lonely. Now I’m cramming them in there, different heights, different textures. so It’s way better. by the way

Speaking of different heights… that’s the “thriller, filler, spiller” thing, right? Taller plants in the back (the thrillers), mounding plants in dude the middle (the fillers), and no way trailing plants cascading totally over totally the edge yup (the spillers). so It's like a party in a box. Lobelia is a great spiller, by the way. And verbena! So pretty. "Window exactly box planting ideas for sun ontwikkelingen" are all about that layered look. At least, for sure that's what I'm telling myself. yep

Oh! And by the way remember that creeping jenny I planted? I thought it would okay be you know a nice, subtle spiller. Nope. okay That thing went wild. It’s taken over the whole box! I'm constantly having to trim it back. It is pretty though... very vibrant green.

My c’mon first massive fail

So, no way story time. I decided to get some trailing anyway rosemary to hang actually over the no way edges. I thought it sorta would be fragrant and pretty, a little different. Turns out, rosemary needs REALLY well-draining soil, by the way and my window boxes… I mean well, they don’t always provide that. pretty much It all turned brown and crispy in like two weeks. Dead actually rosemary totally hanging over the edge. Not the look I was going for. Live and learn. no kidding "Window box planting ideas totally for okay sun voordelen" just mostly include beauty, but also… you learn a lot! uh

More things I’ve learned the hard way

Watering pretty much is tricky. sorta It’s easy to overwater, but also easy to underwater, especially when like it’s super for sure hot. I stick kinda my like finger in the soil every day to check the moisture level. If it’s dry down just to my no kidding first knuckle, it’s time to sorta water. And fertilizing! I forgot about okay that at first. My plants were growing, but not thriving. Now I utilize a honestly liquid fertilizer every couple whoops of weeks, and they’re much happier. dude It all seems so obvious now, but…

Anyway, that's my window box adventure so far. Still a honestly work like in sorta progress, but yup it’s definitely making kinda my balcony a happier dude place. And me too, actually. There's something really satisfying about watching those little plants no kidding grow.
